▲自由女神像底座的十四行詩

自由女神像基石上銘刻的是猶太女詩人愛瑪·拉撒露絲的十四行詩《新巨人》中的詩句。

The New Colossus Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land；

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch whose flame

Is imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome； her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities .

"Keep ancient lands your storied pomp!" cries she with silent

lips.

"Give me your tired your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

不似希臘偉岸銅塑雕像

擁有征服疆域的臂膀

紅霞落波之門你巍然屹立

高舉燈盞噴薄光芒

您凝聚流光的名字 ——

放逐者之母

把廣袤大地照亮

凝視中寬柔撒滿長橋 海港

“扼守你們曠古虛華的土地與功勳吧！”她呼喊

顫慄著緘默雙唇：

那勞瘁貧賤的流民

那嚮往自由呼吸，又被無情拋棄

那擁擠於彼岸悲慘哀吟

那驟雨暴風中翻覆的驚魂

我高舉燈盞佇立金門!
